Case Study:
Nova Scotia’s Low-Carbon Transition with Ecology Action Centre
The Ecology Action Centre partnered with ASBB Economics and Research to support Nova Scotia’s journey toward a sustainable, low-carbon energy future. The project focuses on two critical areas: advancing energy-efficient building retrofits to increase conservation and addressing the skilled trades workforce gap that will play a central role in this transition. By incorporating a broad range of perspectives, ASBB is working to create a strategy that not only supports energy conservation but also provides equitable, accessible career pathways.
Our Approach
Central to our approach is engagement with marginalized communities across Nova Scotia, recognizing the importance of including diverse voices in building a sustainable future. Through in-depth consultations, surveys, and community dialogues, ASBB is gathering insights to identify the unique challenges and opportunities faced by these populations. This engagement process ensures that our research captures the lived experiences and perspectives essential for effective, inclusive policy recommendations.
The Impact
The findings from this project will help shape policies, training initiatives, and programs that make the trades and green energy sectors more accessible to all Nova Scotians. By understanding the needs and aspirations of marginalized groups, ASBB aims to support the creation of a skilled, diverse workforce ready to contribute to a greener economy. This project represents a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions while empowering communities to actively participate in and benefit from the province’s sustainable transformation.
At ASBB Economics and Research, we’re proud to collaborate on projects that humanize economic transitions, promoting both environmental responsibility and social equity in the journey toward a sustainable future for Nova Scotia.
