Case Study:
Marketing Levy Jurisdictional Scan and Engagement for YASTA.
The Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association (YASTA) sought to explore the potential of a marketing levy as a way to enhance local tourism funding and drive regional growth. ASBB Economics and Research was engaged to conduct a thorough jurisdictional scan, gathering insights from comparable regions and engaging with local stakeholders to assess the most effective and community-aligned approach for YASTA.
Our Approach
To ensure a well-rounded strategy, we began with a jurisdictional scan, examining how similar regions implement marketing levies and their impact on local tourism. This analysis allowed us to gather best practices, challenges, and success stories. Alongside this research, we conducted a robust community engagement process, meeting with local business owners, tourism operators, and municipal leaders to understand their perspectives, concerns, and hopes for a marketing levy in Yarmouth and Acadian Shores.
The Findings
Our research and engagement revealed key insights, including best practices for levy implementation, possible revenue outcomes, and ways to ensure community alignment and transparency. The findings highlighted opportunities to fund marketing initiatives that could boost YASTA’s visibility, support local businesses, and create sustainable economic benefits for the region. By grounding our recommendations in both data and community feedback, we provided YASTA with a roadmap to consider a levy that balances tourism growth with community priorities.
Impact and Vision
With a clear understanding of how a marketing levy could support YASTA’s goals, the association is better positioned to make informed decisions that benefit both tourism and the wider community. This project underscores YASTA’s commitment to sustainable tourism growth that enhances local prosperity and respects community values.
At ASBB Economics and Research, we’re proud to help organizations like YASTA design strategies that bring economic value while fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration.
